Get set for an avalanche of music, comedy and glamour as the world’s biggest and best cabaret festival of its kind gets underway today in Adelaide.
Offering 53 shows featuring more than 300 artists over the next 16 days and nights, this year’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival is the most diverse and exciting yet.
The program features 20 world, 10 Australian, and 11 Adelaide premieres.
Artistic Director Ali McGregor said there is something for everyone.
“We are so excited to be bringing you our most diverse program yet. With everything from Broadway Divas to Aussie Rock Gods with any number of ground breaking, tantalising, heart-warming and rib-tickling shows in between!”
The 2018 program features Broadway royalty and two-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone in Don’t Monkey with Broadway and Tony Award winning and Golden Globe nominated co-creator of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, John Cameron Mitchell.
Australian headliners include The Cat Empire and friends and Em Rusciano in Difficult Woman. A record number of performers with Adelaide connections have their own shows including Mark Holden in Mark Holden’s Greatest Show on Earth.
Adelaide Festival Centre has commissioned three shows this year and produced seven including Ali McGregor’s brand new show Yma Sumac the Peruvian Songbird.
Adelaide Festival Centre CEO and Artistic Director Douglas Gautier AM said it’s shaping up to be a fabulous festival.
“It’s extremely exciting that Adelaide Festival Centre will once again host the festival under one roof. As part of an ongoing transformation the Festival Centre now boasts a new Walk of Fame, refurbished foyers and bars.
“Adding to the atmosphere is our specially constructed Wintergarden on the newly opened terrace and Walk of Fame, where patrons can keep warm and enjoy mulled wine, firepits, pop up eateries and live music.
“It’s a wonderful time of year to get out and enjoy some world class entertainment right here in Adelaide.” Tickets can be purchased through BASS 131 246 or online adelaidecabaretfestival.com.au
