The worlds largest festival of its kind, Adelaide Festival Centre's Adelaide Cabaret Festival has been building its presence in the Festival State since 2001.

Adelaide Festival Centre's Adelaide Cabaret Festival has earned its place as a major event in the international arts calendar and the highlight of winter in South Australia.

The 2015 Adelaide Cabaret Festival had more than 350 artists performing with 46 sold out shows and was the highest grossing festival in its 15 year history. With Barry Humphries at the helm the Festival saw a 12% increase in box office from the previous year, highlighting the Festival’s continued and growing popularity.

On the final night of Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2015, Artistic Director Barry Humphries took to the stage to hand over the role of Artistic Director to the creative talents of Ali McGregor and Eddie Perfect, who will be co-Artistic Directors for the Festival in 2016 and 2017.

As they charge headlong into planning for the Festival, Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier said:

"We are absolutely delighted to welcome Ali McGregor and Eddie Perfect as our joint Artistic Directors for Adelaide Cabaret Festivals 2016 and 2017. They are well qualified as cabaret professionals to take the mantle from Barry Humphries who has given us such a memorable and successful Festival this year.”

“I would like to extend my utmost thanks to Barry Humphries and the entire Adelaide Cabaret Festival team for all of their work in making this year's festival such a roaring success. Too often, we hear the terms 'world's largest' or 'biggest' ring hollow but, for this event, there is no doubt of its excellence…As with many of our other festivals, our Cabaret Festival is now being copied interstate." - The Hon. Jack Snelling, Minister for the Arts, June 2015.

The attraction of this assignment is the city of Adelaide, which has for 40 years hosted the most successful arts festival in the Southern Hemisphere, and is a city which, unlike every other Australian city, has not striven to resemble an American metropolis.” – Barry Humphries, QANTAS The Australian Way, June 2015.

“There is a sense of largesse to Adelaide…world music festival Womadelaide takes over the Botanic Park in early March but the hottest news is that Barry Humphries, who has just retired as Dame Edna Everage, has been announced as the artistic director of the 2015 Adelaide Cabaret Festival.”  Liz Hoggard, Evening Standard, UK.

“Between the divas, the miniature horse and a man in a bear head, there’s plenty of glitter, fun and champagne to be had, with or without Dame Edna.” – Jane Howard, The Guardian.

“The Adelaide Cabaret Festival has matured into a substantial and high-quality platform for entertainers…” - Matthew Westwood, The Australian.
